Description

The GM Command was built in the last weeks of the One Year War, however they were never produced in the numbers to make a difference to the Federation's war effort. Most that were built typically did not see front-line action, instead being regulated to colony and base defense. A number of these machines were assigned to the Federation forces stationed at the Neutral Side 6 Ribo Colony, at least three of which were assigned to Gray Phantom's Scarlet Team. These mobile suits would battle with the Zeon forces' mobile suits that had infiltrated the colony in search of Federation activity. Initially, the Federation was hesitant to aid the colony in their defense, but they had no choice when the Zeon's MS-18E Kämpfer appeared to be too much for the Colony defense forces. However despite being superior to the standard GM and had already defeated several MS-06FZ Zaku II Kai several days earlier, the Kämpfer was too much and wiped out all of Scarlet team's mobile suits, as well as anything else that stood in its way until it reached the Gundam. During U.C. 0081, some GM Command units were assigned to the Phantom Sweep Corps for their battles against Zeon Remnants, these units featured the team emblem on their shields.

Mounted on the head of the GM are a pair of shell-firing Vulcan guns, like the Guncannon and the Gundam. These weapons are more useful for shooting down incoming missiles or fighters, and are next to useless against a mobile suit’s armor. At the onset of the One Year War, the Earth Federation did not take the mobile suit threat seriously- this was until the Principality of Zeon military completely outmaneuvered and decimated the Earth Federation Space Force with their MS-06 Zaku II. As Zeon forces laid siege on Earth, the Federation developed several prototype mobile suits, the most notable being the RX-78-2 Gundam, and from the Gundam came the Earth Federation's first mass production mobile suit: the RGM-79 GM, which was more agile and faster than the Zeon's Zaku II in space and on earth. The GM would serve as the Federation's primary mobile suit throughout the war, supported by the RB-79 Ball mobile pod, and later serve as the basis of the Earth Federation's mobile suits for over fifteen years. The same portable firearm used by the Zaku II. It can switch between semi-automatic and automatic fire. Although useless against Luna Titanium Alloy, it can still destroy weaker armor material with multiple shots. It fires 120mm caliber rounds that are stored in a 100-rounds drum magazine. It was used by the "fake Gundam team" on a gold-painted GM II pretending to be the MSN-00100 Hyaku Shiki while taking a civilian shuttle as hostage. As the mobile suit enters the atmosphere, a bowl-shaped ballute (balloon parachute) deploys to protect it from the friction heat of atmospheric entry. The balloon then detaches, leaving the mobile suit with chest and leg hover units which ease its descent to the ground. If the mobile suit reaches the ground without expending all the fuel in the leg units, these devices can also be used for hovering and high-speed strike missions. History [ ] With the GM Command series use of a generator with higher output, intakes and ducts are also added to enhance cooling functions. [1] [2] This higher output generator is however a double-edged sword. [1] Although it allows for full-scale operation of equipment like beam gun and beam rifle, such generators at that time could only be manufactured in zero gravity facilities, so mass production of the suit then at the Earth Federation Forces’ largest production facility at Jaburo was not possible. [1] This had a negative impact on the suit's production number during the war. [1]

The beam spray gun features three different firing modes: a basic single-shot mode, a burst shot mode for area suppression, and a range shot mode that scatters the beam to cause damage over a wide area. Output 1.4 MW. An early prototype of the Earth Federation Forces' mobile suit mass production project, the GM Ground Type was developed before the RX-78-2 Gundam's operational data was recovered. Even though it was only able to operate on Earth, its internal parts were all tuned for ground combat, and it was equipped with Luna Titanium armor, causing its mobility, maneuverability, and general performance to surpass the later RGM-79 GM. [1] [2] It is said that its performance under gravity even rivals that of the RX-78. [2] The Freedom was a space-use mobile suit used by the Earth Federation before it was dissolved. Due to the loss of MS technology at the time, the Freedom has sub-par performance. By U.C. 0223, nearly three decades after its initial deployment, the Freedom was considered slow compared to agile modern MS such as the CONSENT CCMS-03 Bugu.Used for protection, some fighters do not equip the shield as its weight impairs mobility. [1] Equipment [ ] The GM Intercept Custom is a late production version of the GM Sniper Custom. Its change in appearance is to reduce cost, for ease of production, and to facilitate the use of the "Fellow Booster" - a space-use assault booster unit that improves the suit's mobility, operational range and firepower. As its name implies, the GM Intercept Custom is meant to intercept enemy units, playing a role in protecting the fleet. The basic performance of the GM Intercept Custom is the same as that of the GM Sniper Custom's, so it has no problem fighting even if the Fellow Booster is somehow rendered inoperable. The main weaponry of the GM Intercept Custom includes a beam saber, a beam spray gun, head vulcans and missile launchers on the Fellow Booster. A pair of shell-firing armament built into the head. Low offensive power, only used to restrict enemy movement, and lay down a wall of suppressive fire due to their rapid fire capability. In the U.C. 0090s, the GM II continued to be used at remote bases where the RGM-89 Jegan had not yet been deployed. During the Laplace Incident units were deployed alongside the Nemo and GM III to combat the Zeon remnant forces during their assault of Dakar and Torrington Base.
