Once again the pairing of David Walliams and Tony Ross created magic. Tony Ross' amazing illustrations completely enhance this wonderful book and perfectly capture the heart and soul of David Walliams' story. I'm sure the usual age group are going to be reading this in their droves, but I would recommend an older age range of 10-13 to this title. With warnings of sad/violent scenes and dark/disturbing themes to parents. It took SO LONG for something to actually happen. David Walliams is defo not Dahl's successor, but I guess if you like Roald Dahl's work, you'll like his work too! I love reading books with Erin. Us reading our bedtime story is my favourite part of the day. This book was really funny and had us laughing out loud in places. Even Raj makes an appearance! I really enjoyed it and seeing Erin enjoy a book makes me so happy.

Ok, so the disclaimer; I know I am not the target audience for the book. It would probably get four stars if I were writing about its rating for a 7-11 year old.And when his mother, the Queen, is dragged away to the Tower of London, Alfred must screw up his courage and battle to save her, himself… and the entire city. Well, this is my first David Walliams book and as I am aged 44, I suspect I am not really his target demographic. I did find myself tuning out a few times, which I try very hard not to do.

I thought like others it would be more like Archie Wilson & The Beasts of Loch Ness. That is one of my favourites. This is more for younger children 6-8 year olds, has many pictures, has a couple of dark moments so 6 year olds might find it heavy going. Recommend if you have kids who want an audio book to listen to in the car, this would be one to add along with Archie Wilson.I am a massive David Walliams fan, so I expected a lot from this book.
